Stoptober Campaign 2014
Our dedicated teams of advisors have been busy promoting the Stoptober 2014 campaign across the country, throughout Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Camden, Croydon, Haringey, Oxfordshire, Portsmouth, West Sussex and North Lincolnshire.
The Stoptober campaign is a government initiative to reduce smoking in the UK and was launched in 2012 to encourage the UK’s 10 million smokers to stop smoking for 28 days. Last year over 250,000 people signed up to the challenge and 65% of those taking part reached 28 days. Current research shows that people who stop smoking for 28 days are 5 times more likely to remain smoke free.
This year’s Stoptober theme is comedy which is being used to help increase interest and motivate people during their quit attempt to make their experience easier.
Supporting this year’s national campaign are top comedians Paddy McGuinness, Al Murray, Andi Osho and Lee Nelson. There is also a wealth of quitting aids available, including a mobile phone app to help smokers realise their goal and help them to succeed.
To support this year’s theme of humour, we are hosting our very own ‘Stoptober Joke Booth’ which gives people the opportunity to tell a joke on camera which will be updated on our social media pages (Youtube, Facebook & Twitter) and local websites. The video with the most ‘likes’ on Facebook will win £100.
At our roadshows in Bracknell, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Newbury, Reading, Slough, Wokingham and Woodley, we had a two man comedy pantomime called ‘It’s behind you’ which was performed by Solutions 4 Health staff.
A wide range of support is available in various regions across the country. To find your local stop-smoking service’s website just click on the logo for your area below.
