Safeguarding Children and Young People

  1. Introduction 

Solutions 4 Health (The Organisation) and its integrated Health Visiting and School Nursing Service is committed to the protection and safeguarding of all who use their services including children and young people. The Organisation ensures that the outcomes for children are improved by having robust safeguarding children arrangements in place, multi-agency working and ensures that the  voices of children are heard.

Solutions 4 Health meets statutory requirements in line with Section 11 of the Children Act. These include:

All staff employed undergo a Disclosure and Barring (DBS) check prior to employment. Checks are enhanced or standard depending on the role. All roles where employees have direct contact with service users are subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Solutions 4 Health policies and systems are up to date and are reviewed on a regular basis.

All eligible staff undertake relevant safeguarding children training and this is regularly reviewed to ensure that it is up to date. Solutions 4 Health has a robust training policy in place with regard to delivering safeguarding children training.

Safeguarding children supervision is undertaken with key professionals ensuring best practice and improved outcomes for children.

Learning from reviews including serious case reviews is disseminated via staff forums, safeguarding children training and supervision.

 

  1. Named Professionals for Safeguarding Children and Young People 

The Safeguarding Children and Young People Team compromises of:

  • Director of Public Health and Lifestyle Services – Executive Lead for Safeguarding
  • Head of Public Health Nursing and Safeguarding Children
  • Named Doctor for Safeguarding Children
  • Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children

They are clear about their roles and responsibilities and receive appropriate support and training to undertake these.

The Director of Public Health and Lifestyle Services ensures that the Organisation fulfils its corporate responsibility and continues to provide direction in relation to the Safeguarding of Children and Young People.

The Head of Public Health Nursing and Safeguarding is the  Lead for Safeguarding Children and Young People and ensures that the safeguarding team provides a quarterly report to the Quality and Risk Group which reports to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors takes the issue of safeguarding seriously and will receive an annual report on issues related to Safeguarding as well as contemporaneous notifications of any serious untoward incidents.

Solutions 4 Health is an active member of the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board through membership and work of the Boards and subgroups. Any issues related to safeguarding children will be discussed at Board meetings.

An audit programme provides assurance that safeguarding systems and processes are in place and are working. This will include multi agency audits with partner agencies.

Safeguarding children arrangements is continuously reviewed in order to ensure safe and consistent practice, and to respond to changes in local and national guidance.
